Welcome

In January 2008, a group of bicyclists started meeting to discuss how the already excellent programs of Buffalo Blue Bicycle and Recycle-A-Bike could be enhanced by companion programs under a larger umbrella organization. As the discussion progressed, a small group formed to act as an advisory board. Members of the advisory board are bicyclists, primarily, but also members of the Buffalo community who are committed to advocating, educating, and acting as a group to promote healthy living, community involvement, and a healthy community environment through increased green transportation options, such as mass transit and safe pedestrian access.

The name Green Options Buffalo was chosen, because it reflects one of the goals of many bicyclists, to engage in one of the green options for transportation. In addition, the initials G.O. Buffalo reflect the cyclist’s energy and motivation to keep going. It is not uncommon for members of G.O. Buffalo to ride their bicycles year-round, regardless of the temperature outside.

Many members of Green Options Buffalo are also members of Buffalo Blue Bicycle and are active with programs like Recycle-A-Bike. Both programs have been active in Buffalo for several years, and have thrived due to the hard work and enthusiasm of their participants.

Volunteers take Buffalo Blue Bicycle, Recycle-A-Bike, the bicycle valet service, and other G.O. Buffalo projects and programs the last mile. If you’re interested, please let us know. You don’t have to ride your bike 365 days/year, be an expert bike mechanic, or a professional grant writer (but let us know if you are!), you just need to be interested and motivated.
